Why it matters

THE HEARTH OF AN ECOSYSTEM AND LIFELINE FOR future generations

The Saskatchewan River Delta is one of the most ecologically significant and biodiverse landscapes in North America, spanning 10,000 km² across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

A globally significant carbon sink, it stores over 160 million tons of carbon in Manitoba and additional tons in Saskatchewan. Its wetlands naturally purify water (reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere) and mitigate flooding, while supporting rich biodiversity including over 200 bird species, 40 mammals and 45 fish species.

Mission

OUR MISSION GUIDES US

What Nadina is building

HONORING OUR PAST
TO RESTORE OUR future

Sakesiw is a non-profit founded by Nadina Gardiner and inspired by the legacy of her late father. A member of the Cumberland House Cree Nation, Nadina is building bridges between First Nations and key stakeholders to restore the Saskatchewan River Delta. She believes in learning from the past to guide our future — not to dwell, but to grow with open minds and open hearts.
